To celebrate the completion of work to restore our beloved cathedral organ, we're delighted to invite you to join us for the first in a series of concerts and events this weekend.
Our very own Assistant Director of Music, Mark McDonald, will be playing the organ and showcasing its incredible voice following careful repair earlier this summer. He will be joined by renowned Calgary-based trumpeter, Adam Zinatelli.

About Mark McDonald
Organist and harpsichordist Mark McDonald is recognized for his sensitive interpretations of a wide range of repertoire and styles from early music to the avant garde. Based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada (Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ ters.) he is sought after for his skills as an organist, harpsichordist, choral director, and teacher. Laureate of several international competitions, he was the third-prize winner of the 2014 Arp Schnitger International Organ Competition in Hamburg Germany and most recently participated in the 2017 International Organ Competition Musashino-Tokyo. He was a featured soloist at the Royal Canadian College of Organist’s National Convention in Kingston, Ontario in 2016 and his diverse career has included performances with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the Victoria Symphony and Cirque du Soleil.
Mark currently serves as the Assistant Director of Music at Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria; additionally, he is the Instructor of Organ at the University of Victoria, and a founding member of the Victoria Organ Studio teaching collective.
About Adam Zinatelli
Praised as “exemplary” and “a superior trumpet player” (Calgary Herald), Adam Zinatelli is accomplished as an orchestral player, soloist, and chamber musician. He has served as Principal Trumpet of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra since 2009, and has been guest principal trumpet with the National Arts Centre Orchestra and Les Violons du Roy. Adam is a founding member of the Canadian National Brass Project and of the Reveille Trumpet Collective, a group dedicated to commissioning and performing new music for trumpet.
His debut recording ‘Fifteen Feet Closer to the Sky’, praised as “a highly original recording project” (La Scena Musicale) released in November 2023, composed entirely of premiere recordings.
Mr. Zinatelli completed undergraduate studies at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto with Andrew McCandless, and pursued graduate studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Michael Sachs.
