Below is the lectionary for principal services at Christ Church Cathedral, including Sunday and Festal Eucharists, Diocesan Festivals as available, and Evensong.
The Eucharistic lectionary is taken from the Revised Common Lectionary, Thematic Track, and the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. The Evensong lectionary adapts, in most cases, the Revised Common Lectionary Daily Lectionary (RCL-DL). The psalter in RCL-DL is not designed for communal or choral recitation, so our Evensong lectionary uses the psalms as appointed in The Book of Alterative Services (BAS). In the case of Other Feasts of our Lord or Other Major Feasts, it follows the Daily Office lectionary directly from the BAS.
A centralized and publicly available resource supports the liturgy of a cathedral.
For the Eucharist, the Revised Common Lectionary, the standard adopted by the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada in 1998, allows for choices. In some important respects, it also differs from the lectionary as published in the 1985 Book of Alternative Services, or previously the 1962 Book of Common Prayer.
For Choral Evensong, it allows us to ensure that our sung office has a strong relationship to the spoken office, makes robust use of the psalter, draws upon the riches of scripture, facilitates preaching and has thematic ties to the Sunday and Holy Day Eucharistic lectionary (RCL) - all of which allows us to grow together in faith.
