Christ Church Cathedral has provided sacred space for the interment of cremated remains since 1952. The Columbarium is a non-denominational peaceful resting place for loved ones, family, friends, relatives, clergy and parishioners who rest within its walls. Visitors are welcome to sit in the prayer desks for quiet, prayer, and contemplation.
Questions & Answers
The maximum urn size is 6 1/2" D x 9" W x 4 1/2" H. It is imperative that all urns be tried for fit at least one week prior to an interment. We would also recommend that the fit is determined before a final urn purchase has been made.
Flowers and other memorabilia are allowed in the Columbarium at the time of interment. Due to space limitations in the cathedral's niches, only urns containing ashes are permitted to be interred, however flowers and other memorabilia are allowed in the Columbarium at the time of interment. The cemetery committee reserves the right to remove and dispose of any unauthorized object, flower, or plant in the Columbarium without prior notice and at their discretion.
Can I place flowers at times after the interment?
Families and friends of anyone interred in the Columbarium can speak with the Cathedral office about making an offering to the cathedral for the placement of flowers in the Columbarium at particular times within the church calendar year, as a memorial to the deceased. A memorial note will be placed in the service leaflet on the Sunday closest to the desired date. Fresh flowers only are permitted in the Columbarium.
The Columbarium has regular times when it is open to the public, usually during normal opening hours of the Cathedral. Contact the Cathedral office to arrange for a private visit if these times are not convenient.
