Margaret was born and educated in England, moving to Montreal in 1966 where she began her career as a legal secretary/assistant. There she met her husband, Laird, and the two of them moved to Victoria in 1993. Margaret continued working mostly in the legal field although the last three years before her retirement were spent working in the B.C. Ministry of Labour. The Ketchens quickly became parishioners of the Cathedral, having been drawn there by the sound of the bells, which Margaret learned to ring, and she is still one of the Cathedral bell ringers. She has been the President of the Chancel Guild and has convened the Cathedral bazaar several times, both in 2017 and 2018 and also about six times some years ago. Margaret is one of the readers at the Family Service on Sunday mornings. Laird died in 2012 and Margaret continues with her other interests in sailing, travelling, needlework and gardening.
