Many of our parishioners have been asking what we’re doing for the upcoming coronation in May. Our main celebration will be a special concert, sung by the Cathedral Choir and Young Choristers, along with an orchestra comprised of members of the Victoria Symphony. The concert, which takes place on the eve of the coronation (Friday, May 5) will feature Handel’s four “Coronation Anthems” (originally commissioned for the coronation of George II in 1727), Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry’s “I was glad” (composed for the coronation of Edward VII in 1902) as well as Handel’s Organ Concerto. The evening will be attended by the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia and representatives from the Monarchist League of Canada.

As well as being a fitting celebration for King Charles III, the concert will also double as a fundraiser for the cathedral’s operating fund. Therefore, we are encouraging any cathedral members who can to attend, and, if possible, to purchase a $100 “supporter ticket,” which makes a $60 receiptable donation directly to the cathedral as well as providing access to premium seats and a post-concert reception. Quantities are limited, so act now!
