Christ Church Cathedral will be the only Anglican church on the Island remaining open after today’s announcement by the Anglican Diocese of B.C. to close all other churches on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands for 60 days. The Cathedral will be open for individual prayer and respite, but all events and services have been cancelled until further notice.
These actions follow B.C. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry’s prohibition on public gatherings greater than 50 people as a measure to slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

• The cathedral will be open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm daily. The Chapel of the New Jerusalem is closed.
• The cathedral walking group will continue but all other meetings, programs and services are suspended until further notice.
• Cathedral office hours will be 9.00 am to 3.30 pm
• Cathedral staff will have protocols in place for increased cleaning and ensuring the recommendations around social distancing and limiting gathering to under 50 people are observed.

Cathedral Dean Ansley Tucker said the church will remain a source of support and reassurance. “It is important in times of uncertainty for people to have quiet places to collect their thoughts and gird themselves for the challenges of their day. Over the next few weeks, the Cathedral will also reach out to the community frequently through recorded readings and music, as well as livestreamed services,” she said. “I encourage people to consult the Cathedral website or social media for continuous updates.”
