Knitting into the Mystery

Knitting into the Mystery

Our group, Knitting into the Mystery, comprises more than 40 members and meets in two separate gatherings (morning and evening), on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Gatherings open and close with prayer and include a reflection/meditation offered by a participant and blessing of shawls. The morning group meets in the Deanery from 10.00 - 11.30 a.m. The evening group meet at members homes at 7.00 p.m.

We have received generous donations of yarn (washable synthetics preferred), although most members knit and provide shawls from their own resources. Well over a 100 shawls are blessed and bestowed each year.  We pray for all who let us know of their need and requests for prayer are circulated by email.

Our knitting community now extends to St. Andrew’s, Port Angeles with exchange every alternate year. St. Mary’s in Oak Bay is a local offshoot of our group.
We are incorporated into Sunday worship each year on the 5th Sunday in Lent.

Although our numbers are growing, we hope to retain the intimacy of our praying and knitting together in the venue of the deanery parlor, with evening meets at the home of group members.

If you are interested in joining one of the groups or would like more information, please contact  the Cathedral office at [email protected]

Please note that our last session before the summer break is June 27. We start up again on September 6. On September 12, our sisters from St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Port Angeles will be visiting us.

Shela Martindale is retiring as leader of the group. In September, Janet Murray and Phyllis Lewis will be coming on board as co-chairs.
