Explore the emotion of texts surrounding the suffering of Christ set to choral music by composers spanning over 400 years. From Allegri’s haunting and mysterious Miserere, written for service at the Sistine Chapel, to David Lang’s Pulitzer-Prize winning The Little Match Girl Passion, based on J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion interspersed with the narrative from Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Match Girl, to Sven-David Sandström’s Hear My Prayer, a modern reinterpretation of the music of Henry Purcell.
