In the preface to Sabbath as Resistance, Walter Brueggeman contrasts the "[market's] generation of needs and desires that will leave us endlessly 'rest-less,' inadequate, unfulfilled" with the divine disciplines that we can receive as a gift. (Read more in the Sabbath as Resistance Excerpt). Sometimes called a rule of life, these are disciplines that order our lives in the direction of being more spiritually free and loving.
In this series, we’ll consider our own rules of life with respect to sabbath, prayer, the body, money and possessions; and service, solidarity and advocacy. These are not spiritual straight-jackets but ways to put on the gentle yoke of Jesus and rest in the heart of God. Registration is requested to help with planning and distribution of materials.
