Usually our organ and choral scholars here at Christ Church Cathedral come to us with little or no knowledge of what it means to sing in an Anglican cathedral, and service-by-service, year-by-year they imbibe our peculiar and beautiful traditions until they too become Anglican choral music enthusiasts.

This year's organ scholar, Amiel Elfert, breaks that mold. The son and grandson of Anglican clergy, Amiel (or "Ami" as he prefers to be called) already has a deep appreciation for church music, and preferences to go with it.

On December 26, we'll sing a hymn during the 10.30am service that Ami requested. It's a setting of "Jesus came, adored by angels" to a tune by American compsoer Gerald Near. Please use this short instructional video prepared by Ami and choral scholar, Isolde Welby, along with the linked PDF, to learn this rousing new tune before coming to church on Sunday.
