In Darlene's professional career, she is a family physician and educator. Her mission was to walk with patients and to support them as they met life’s challenges. For the past 12 years, her outreach work was principally devoted to acting as the ward physician on annual surgical orthopaedic missions to Guatemala then Ecuador. She is deeply committed to education, including educating and empowering patients so that they may be self-determining in their health decisions. She is a clinical professor of family medicine at UBC [Victoria Site] engaged in education at the undergraduate, postgraduate/residency and faculty levels. She continues to teach at UBC Faculty of Medicine’s Island Medical Program. She is inspired by the breadth of engagement and commitment in the Christ Church Cathedral community, and has been a parishioner for about 30 years.
