CATHEDRAL HILL RENEWAL PROJECT

"Over the last eight years we have been looking into how we might be involved in two major pieces of work here on the Cathedral precinct: the East End of the Cathedral and the Memorial Hall. We have known for some time that the 1991 addition to the east end of the Cathedral needs considerable repairs. We have
also known that the west half of Memorial Hall needs seismic upgrading. The east half of Memorial Hall was seismically upgraded in 2003.

These two pieces of work are a given for us over the next few years. The question a task team, made up of members of the diocese, cathedral parishioners and rep-resentatives from the school, has been asking is: will we be satisfied with just a repair? Is this an opportunity, they have asked, for us to do more? They have concluded that we must begin now to look beyond next year or even the next 10 years. The task team has come up with a process that will assist us to look well into the future as to what will happen on the area the City of Victoria has designated Cathedral Hill (Rockland, Burdett, Quadra and Vancouver).
The following vision has been created by the task team for ministry and mission on Cathedral Hill is:
“A gathering place where the exploration of faith and learning transforms the individual and community.”
This vision will be tested in all the communities of our diocese.
We will all examine our ministry and mission in light of this vision, and name that which resonates and reflect upon that which we will add. We will then examine the facilities in light of these conversations to see what need to happen with regards to future build-ings on Cathedral Hill.
I believe this is a very exciting time for us as a diocese, the cathedral of this diocese and the largest parish. It is a time for us to draw together and listen to one another and to God as we seek to define what we will be as Anglicans on these islands."
